Ahh it took a minuete but Flamin Hotz Records back on that shit with its first offering in 2009 with DJ Jon S aka Proper Villains Productions killing it on this 8 track ep banger. Mixing elements of Baltimore Club, Figit, and Wobble Wobble this element is perfect compliment to peak hour bangers which will surely set your night off.

Personally my fav is the Machinedrum Remix ft Theophilus London which I first heard on the “This Charming Mixtape”. I started buggin out when I realized the producer which made me frantic calling dudes to get clearance on the track. Took a min but it was well worth it in my opinion. So download it and enjoy. Fresh off the heels of Funkeiros e Progresso EP and the massive Pancadão do Morro: O Funk do Flamin Hotz, Já É?, which brought fair trade funk carioca to the table, Flamin Hotz brings a dose of funk’s brother from another mother, a heady combination of bass-heavy dance beats produced on the periphery.  Kuduro is yet another ricochet of sounds to echo across the black Atlantic and percolate to ears worldwide.  Throughout Angola, and especially its capital, Luanda, the dominant sound is this electronic combination of traditional Angolan percussion with the straight kick of house and techno. For more than a decade, local producers have been mimicking beats using whatever technology has been at hand – most recently the program Fruity Loops – to produce the soundtrack to a sweaty Angolan night, with rapid-fire toasting in Angolan Portuguese.  The flow may sound Jamaican, but it is uniquely Angolan – another musical link across the African diaspora.

Once produced, burned CDs circulate at lightning speed and Kuduro blares from condongueiros, the blue-and-white shared vans that dart insanely through Luanda’s chaotic traffic.  DJs pick up the most popular tracks to play at outdoor parties, raves really, across the country.  That’s where the dual meaning of Kuduro’s name comes into play.  Kuduro is also a dance, where slick moves and winding & grinding are the order of the day.  The word is a bastardization of the Portuguese phrase “hard ass” (cu duro transformed into Kuduro), whose origin story traces back to producer Tony Amado’s inspiration by Jean-Claude Van Damme’s ridiculous white boy “hard ass” dance moves in kickboxing flicks.  How’s that for globalization.

After hearing snippets of Kuduro that has filtered out of Angola, especially through the global ghettotech blog circuit, Flamin Hotz Records got in touch with Frédéric Galliano, one of the biggest foreign exporters of this sound, especially through his CD Kuduro Sound System (Frikyiwa 2006) and his video documentary on the history of Kuduro (http://www.myspace.com/fredericgalliano). “Força Kuduro!”, the 12″ EP he curated for Flamin Hotz, features a wide range of Kuduro tracks produced by Galliano, Dj Tecas, and Dj Patrick.  “Força Kuduro!” also features some of the hottest vocal talent out of Angola with Pai Diesel, Zoca Zoca, and Puto Lilas.  And in a nod to Kuduro’s increasing global currency, we brought in Rub a Dub Market from Japan on a Galliano beat that will jumpstart any party. Most importantly, while the free CD-R hustle in Luanda is essential to Kuduro’s musical economy, Flamin Hotz ensured that each track was properly licensed from the artists, who were justly compensated for their music.

For fans of the Tambourine Dream project go get the new Canyon Dancing Ep out by the very good people over at Flagrant Fowl. These two dudes are constantly killing it in the game and they sent me a copy of the new record and its freaking fire. Remixs include Liars, Patti Smith, Silver Apples, Yeasayer, Battles, Six Organs of Admittance, and Soft Circle receive that Flagrant flavor. Vinyl is pressed loud and sounds clean with that really nice attention to the mastering so its not a total barage of sound.

This is just another excelent record from two dudes who are constantly pushing the genre and putting out new records. Once again they take left field tracks and present a whole new take on them and reinterperte them for the dancefloor.

Can’t wait to drop these in the club…

“Oh no, he didn’t.” “Dude is taking it there.” “Oh my Gaaawd.” “That’s fucking awesome!” “That sucks.” Whatever you wanna say, Rev. McFly’s first single on Flamin’ Hotz as Ninja Sonik definitely knows how to get people buzzin’. The EP is a mixture of electro/rave/Bmore coming straight from NY. The scene for this shit is some real durt-ass parties (used to see dude floating around the earliest Trouble & Bass sessions) where all the hipsters, rock heads, and freaks jam out to hard pumping tracks all night. Just click “Tight Pants(1)” to get an idea. The dude loves his dirty rocking club beats and to yell out Lil Jon inspired phrases like “Whaat n*gga!!!” and “I’m a tight pants wearin’ ass n*gga!” Like I said, real dirt talk. The raps by Telli Gramz make it complete. Also check out the drier original version(2) and the electro/rave sound of “Elsewhere’s Silence Of The Jamz Remix(3).” The shit is straight cray! There’s also the “King Of The Internet” jam, called “Internet Bitch(4) – Pharoah’s 4X4 On The Floor Mix.” It’s got samples for all you net-kings over a jazzy old skool house sound. Also, check the surprise ending with the Bmore version of ODB’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” called “Bastardmore – Ninjasonik Refix.” If nothing else works, at least you have a surefire banger you can rely on.

For this 12″ we dug deep in Philly’s backyard pulling out a whole bunch of producers from the woodwork to get on this. You have Designer Drugs who made Medusa Lounge cool again. You have the Crimp Your Hair DJ’s and Mike Robinson who held down Sals for the longest time. You got Kilroy who has steady been fixing up buildings in Port Richmond and he took a break from that to turn this into a dancefloor stomper. By far one of my favorite tracks on this release has to be Benny Brows remix of All Night that is straight infused with some rock and soul. The Turbostation Dj’s come at it again burning up the dance floor with that Cherry Cola Funk. And nothing is more Philly then the Plastic Little dudes and there wonder kid producer Squid. If this record wasn’t Philly enough we had to get Space 1026 involved since they have been such an inspiration to me over the years. We asked Thom Lessnor to get his brush out and he did pictures of all the guys for the release.

If you guys didn’t already know about the Bersa Disco’s camp they are a group of dudes that are from the East Coast who meet down in South America and started mixing the local Cumbia sound with other genres. Most noteably is the Cumbia Dubstep tracks that they have been pumping out for a while which are freaking insane. I was luck enough to meet Oro11 and dude was super nice. Its totally dope to see these guys do what they are doing and pushing the envelope. Also playing is CB radio which I have yet to hear live but their podcasts are pretty dope.
